The Suspect
A main suspect in this case is Kurt Cobain's own wife, Courtney Love. She shows many signs of violence and she has plenty of motives to have Kurt killed. Even her ex-husband, James Moreland, says she is capable of having Kurt Cobain killed. She used to pay people to beat up others. James was threatened by Love's constant two to five hundred dollar hits to have him jumped. One time she set his bed on fire while he was sleeping in it.
Moreland also said that the main reason he divorced her was because she killed their unborn child by doing too many heavy drugs. (Halperin 41-42) After that divorce, Courtney started to show her violent ways more in public. She told death threats to Lynn Hirschberg of Vanity Fair. She had promised to cut her dog. Love left the following message on Lynn's answering machine; " I will never ____ forgive you...I will haunt you two____ _____for the rest of your life.... Going and interviewing, Lynn Hirschberg is called rape... _______ _______... You're going to pay and pay and pay up your _________ and that's a fact... You're going to wish you've never been born. s were much more powerful. She became severely mad at Kurt when he gave up Nirvana's chance at being in Lollapalooza, a national rock tour. She was basically really angered because he gave up the big money. Not only was she obsesses with money, but she was obsessed with Kurt also.
She constantly accused Cobain of cheating on her with a junkie named Caitlin Moore. By being in her own band, called Hole, it makes matters worse. Because the couple were in two separate bands in the same recording company, money was a big issue, and Courtney was constantly bragging that she got the better deal. She then started to criticize Dylan and cut down Chris, as if she wanted the band to split up. She had the nerve to pretend to be in her own little world, where Courtney says people are "scared of me.. so they don't (mess) with me" (108).
She also tells the press that Kurt is "cheating," as well as telling the reporters lies and rumors regarding their daughter, Frances, and later on, about Kurt's suicide. Kurt started to get annoyed about all this and wanted a divorce, and Courntey did the same except she wanted to go around the prenuptial agreement which stated she would only get half of everything. These and many more are just a few of Courtney's excuses to have Kurt Cobain murdered.
