To be asked on what is the profound meaning of your life is such a deep question, that more often than not, leads an individual to ponder closely on the question threw at him or her. Finding your meaning in life is a big task one has to face.
There are several varied answers, as well as approaches to questions with regards to the meaning of life. It is such an issue that philosophers took so much interest on it. The issue on the meaning of life is in fact, a rich thought in historical philosophy. Various philosophical disciplines aspired to develop a better understanding about life, aiming to explain what should one do now that he or she is here, apart from why an individual exists.
In ancient philosophy, great thinkers such as Plato and Aristotle shared their views on the meaning of life. For Plato, life’s meaning is to achieve the grandest form of knowledge, in the form or idea of “good.” It implies that all things are possibly good and essentially gain their values and usefulness. And human beings come with the duty and responsibility to pursue what is good and right. However, Plato believed that no one could really successfully do it without any philosophical reasoning. The true origin and nature of the mind and its consciousness are broadly debated in the field of science. For this, various theories have been assumed, which includes the electromagnetic theories of consciousness, hypothesis of spacetime and consciousness, Orch-OR, Multiple Drafts Model, holonomic brain theory and many other mind-interpretation.
The field of science may possibly or may not be able to discern the real meaning of life or the most valuable aspect in life in the philosophical sense, but then, there are others studies conducted which dwell on such subject such as humanistic psychology and social psychology. The former studies on factors that lead onto the state of being satisfied with life, while the latter examines affecting factors that may result to individuals failing and not thriving enough.
The meaning of life proves to be the most asked question that no one seems to have a ready answer. To search for one’s purpose and meaning in life is taken disparately by each person, which naturally yields to varying views on life’s purpose. For other people, the meaning of their life is to survive, meaning to live longer than plausible; to find happiness; to seek knowledge and more wisdom; to always do the right thing; to love and to feel loved; and unfortunately for others, they found no meaning in their life.
Perhaps the most reflective description regarding life’s meaning is to rightfully promote the overall well-being of every individual and creatures in the world. Which is to say, it deals on providing unlimited and comprehensive aid to the poor, helpless, sick, depressed, and the oppress. And that, human should have with him or her peace of mind and contentment of heart in order to see the real beauty and true essence of life.
