DAY 4: This is getting complicated. The deeper I get into my investigation, the less I know. I need to find a conspiracy theory that happened in my life time, so that it has direct relevance to me.

I still remember September 11th . I remember what happened. And I remember what seemed to a simple operation to cause terror.

However I have learnt that in conspiracy theories having an opinion, and experience of the matter counts for nothing. No matter how well I remember the day, or how convinced I was of evil Afghans, the conspiracy still holds the ability to change all that.

For those of the YouTube generation, technology has created a new understanding of global disasters, and with them a greater opportunity for global conspiracy. With countless videos and footage of crashes from September 11th, there are many more ways for conspiracy theorists to play with evidence, all around the world.

Like the moon-landing, the usual suspect is the US government. What's changed is the conspiracy theorists, who now come with a degree and PHD in denying truth.

Lots of anomalies are described. Lots of hidden explosions found, and of course; lots of theories born.

Theorists ask us why the terrorists were not caught on the CCTV camera boarding the plane, like every other member of the flight.

Or why the government managed to find information and identification of the terrorists within a day of the two towers collapsing.

Or how incriminating evidence, such as Passports, id cards, and drivers licenses of the terrorists, were conveniently found intact in the wreckage of the twin towers. (Unlike the indestructible black boxes, which were unfortunately melted. On both planes!)

The pentagon accident was just as questionable.

For starters, the American government refused to release any pictures of the destroyed pentagon for two weeks. During this time, eye-witnesses reported the plane to be grey, with no windows– like a missile After the inevitable release of the pictures, more flaws were spotted. The hole which the plane made in the wall was a size much smaller than that of the plane which the government had claimed caused the disaster-supposedly because the wings fell off . I know I am meant to be unbiased, but somehow I feel the hole in their argument is also bigger than the hole in the wall.

Maybe that is one of the key fascinations of conspiracy theories. Their ability to make you first look, then wonder and finally doubt. On this occasion, they have forced me to take what I thought was reality, and change it completely.

DAY 5: On the final day, I have decided enough is enough. I'm fed up with conspiracies, but I still need to evaluate what I have found this week.

I have gone through the bulk of main-stream conspiracy theories.

From Christianity, to false America, to the pop sensation, that might have been the Beatles. I have discovered a lot, I have researched plenty, and much to my disbelief, I have been amazed by how real these theories can be.

The conspiracy theorists whose backyard is the world wide web, intend just that. They spend, what I can only estimate to be weeks on end, hacking, studying videos, and investigating as much of the supposed crime scene as they can get their hands on. I can only describe these people as the internet detectives for all the world's disasters. And why? All that work, all that time, all that dedication– to what end?

Mind you, not all theories are so believable, such as; the claims that Kentucky Fried Chicken is run by the Ku Klux Klan, and if black men eat it, they will become impotent. Those who claim bar codes to be taking over the world. And of course, the infamous David Icke, who spreads the word that the Royals are secretly reptilians.

These conspiracy theories give readers the suspicion that all theorists are lunatics, and that perhaps is the way I started this, five days ago. But, the main-stream theories have changed me. I now question what I hear. I now wonder whether what I'm told is true.

Since Kennedy's assassination in 1963, theories have been suppressed. But if you just look how they have taken off since, you'll see their potential.

They have gained such credibility, that today, Mohammad Al-Fayed can take his conspiracy to court, and rant and rave against the monarchy of the country where he lives.

This shows a great hope for conspiracies in the future. But the question lingers for many; What can be done about them?

How can they be justified, when they are prosecuting the most powerful people in the world?

My advice is to start reading up on conspiracy theories, because you never know when one will really take off.

And remember, the truth is out there!
